Ok I don't know what I am doing wrong I was hoping someone would be able to tell me what I am doing wrong.
I have never been able to ferment ganulated sugar. Here is what I did this time. I added 17lbs of sugar to 6 gallons of tap water. I brought it upto about 140 degrees then added yeast nutrient and cooled. Once it was about 80 degrees I added a entire package of turbo yeast. After 24 hours I have seen nothing. No fermentation at all. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Re: It happened again
Sun, September 25, 2005 - 8:40 AMwhat did you use to sterilize your equipment? Perhaps residue from your sanitizer it is killing your yeast - I've done that.
Alternately, your tap water (chlorinated?) might be the culprit.

Mon, October 3, 2005 - 6:44 PMJimbo, you might have did a stupido. Wait. I'm not sure. Add the sugar to the HOT water and then let it cool untill about 100 F or below. Then and yeast nutrient and stir liike hell for - until you see it blended - wait until the liquid settles and add the yeast. I don't know but I'm guessing. I've got some turbo 48 cooking in the basement. I followed all the directions on the package and it's slowing down after a week. I used 16 lbs. to whatever it said on the package of yeast. Was all your equipment CLEAN? I added the sugar to boilng water. Who's yeast are you using? Prestige? I'll be here tomorrow, Mother willing. (I'm a Wiccan but Mother doesn't care about us getting drunk, she care about us being buttholes) . Later. my friend. -

Mon, October 3, 2005 - 6:49 PMI forgot to add, I've got a damned good buzz right now from the peach brandy I made(I don't do stuff like that{disclaimer}sic) using the 3/8" tubing you advised me about. Thank you muchly and more. If I can help you through this crisis, will we be even-stevens? Or does itmatter? -

Re: It happened again
Tue, October 4, 2005 - 11:20 AMIt actually worked despite the fact that it was turbo yeast it took 3 days to show any kind of fermentation. I guess the aerobic stage was much longer than I had expected. Never the less it was bubbling 72 hours later. -

Re: It happened again
Tue, October 4, 2005 - 3:29 PMIt 't been my experience that turbo yeast takes off faster than then that. Might be that you've got your tongue in the wrong corner of your mouth. I don't know - I joined here to learn. I've got some turbo 48 going in the basement where it's kinda cool and it's been bubbling for over a week. (16 lbs of sugar in 25 liters) The package says 2-3 days. Never give up, my friend, never. Might have to drop back 5 and punt, but...
