Hello,
I am interested in learning about how pot stills are made. Well, I do understand it, for the most part, but I am having a hard time figuring out a few things.
If you've got a stainless-steel pressure cooker of any make, how can you connect copper to it sucessfully, without any welding?
How can you connect a thermometer into a pressure-cooker still? Would you want it in the pot, in the liquid or in the steam? What temperatures are ideal?
What is a good method for detatching the cooling mechanism from the pot lid? I would imagin pot-distillers pick up the lid with the whole contraption!
What is the best low-budget way to distill? Is a pressure cooker it?
I've seen links on this website for homdistiller.org, but the site does not seem to be around anymore.
Thanks a lot!!
PS- any full information on making a pot still would be great.

Re: New...
Sun, May 14, 2006 - 6:18 AMMost Pressure cooker pot stillers use a M-NPT to tube fitting, plug the worm in to that. for the thermometer, use the blow-off valve hole. The thermometer needs to be in the vapor path, not the mash, you don't controll the mash temp, only the power input,. that controlls the vapor speed. You can monitor the mash temp as a secondary point, this will tell you how much alc. is left in the mash, and more importantly, when to start cutting power when heating up.
Post a pic of your rig, or what you have so-far, and lets get it roll'n.

Wed, June 7, 2006 - 3:44 AMhomedistiller.org is up and running. Perhaps if you can't access it, it's blocked by your ISP. In that case, it's probably not legal for you to make a still..... but..... you could try acess it via a proxy site (google to find one)
